I have been making phone calls, first to my dentist's office, (which was no
help, they are closed until September for vacation), then to my neurologist.
The nurse said that gum sensitivity is supposedly a side effect of LONG TERM
use of Dilantin, that I would not be experiencing it this soon, only after
three days. I also called the pharmacy, and the pharmacist, too, said it was
a long term side effect. And that I should call my dentist.
A friend of mine who happens to be a dental technician, makes dentures,
bridges and crowns for my dentist, came over to visit today. I told him my
problem. He said that if my gums were swelling, it would not take much,
about the thickness of a business card, to cause pressure on a crown, pulling
it away from the socket. So I have one expert telling me that swelling would
cause the problem I am having, basically in every area of my mouth where I
have crowns, and another expert telling me it is not from the medication. If
not, is it just a coincidence, and I am experiencing gum swelling from
something else?
