Christine,
You are concerned because you need a more positive outlook on progress with
TM.
Everybody's case is different, with varying degrees of severity in symptoms.
I was diagnosed in December 1996, and eight months later, I have improved. I
was paralyzed from the waist down, went through a short time of physical
therapy to teach me to walk again. When I was first released, I noticed day
to day improvement, now I have to look at it from month to month.

My doctor told me that there would be good days and bad days. You have to
keep a positive attitude about it all the time, and don't ever let the bad
days get you down. He also told me that, along with a negative attitude, I
have to avoid stress and fatigue, because that will cause what seems like a
relapse, or a halt in progress, but is not.

Now I walk okay without a cane, but use the cane for walking on uneven
surfaces, to keep balance. There are still days that I need the cane just to
keep me up, but they are getting more seldom. I just visited my neurologist
yesterday, and he said that I am improving "right on course". That I will
keep improving.

I have a friend of a friend who made a 100% recovery from TM. I am going to
try to contact her, to ask her questions, because if you only look at the
people on this list as a guideline, you will not get the whole picture.
There are many many people with TM who do not even own computers. The people
who contact the list are looking for others with the same problems, or
something in common, because sometimes it seems like there is nobody out
there that really understands what you are going through, and there are all
those unanswered questions we are left with, after leaving the doctor's care.
It makes sense to me, that if a person has made a full recovery from any
ailment, they are getting on with their lives, and probably do not want to be
reminded about the problems they had been coping with for the last few years
in their lives.

I think that this list is a wonderful forum, and when you are confused about
what is happening to you, it is a comfort to talk about problems that you may
be having, with others that are going through the same thing. But each
individual has a different rate of progress, and you can not gauge your own
progress on what you read from someone else's.

The only ones who really know how well you will recover from TM are you and
your doctor.

Also, the subjects that come through this list are so varied(all related to
TM), you should really go through the archives of past letters to get a more
accurate picture of what is really discussed in this group. If you want to
write me, please feel free. Or have more questions for the group, please
post to the group.
