I also have been thinking how to link up with other T.M. people and only
thought of the internet last week.
I was amitted to a Brighton Hospital in July 1996, with flu-like symptoms,
but also acute onset of paralysis in both legs.
During my 10 days in hospital they treated me with emergency steriods,
I.V., ands did the usual tests, M.R.I. and lumber puncture, and eliminated
a lot of diseases, and deduced that I had T.M. from a viral infection. It
also gave me photophobia, unusual hearing sensations, word loss and a
stutter. Since my discharge, I have had many ups and downs. I believe I am
susceptible to infections and a common cold can knock me off my feet. When I
caught the flu in February I was really set back. Since then I have be
re-admitted to hospital with another pyrexia and complete loss of power in
my left leg, but now I am gaining strength again and have physio to help me
regain my walking. My gait is rather strange, but I hope with a lot of
optimism and luck, I will re-educate my nerves to perform correctly. I have
also considered alternative therapy I only use Ravansara oil to help raise
my immune system. I would like to consult a herbalist, but finaces are
tight, so will refrain from that at the moment.
I have been awarded Disability Living Allowance, and this has been helpful
in allowing me to try and maintain a normal life. I used to go out most
nights, loved dancing and socialising, and was a very fit and healthy
nurse. My colleagues have been so supportive but I do wonder sometimes if I
will get back to my old routine.
I would like to have contact, and I may have some more useful information
to swap.
Christine.
