My daughter was 11 when she was diagnosed with ATM. She was fine all day,
she had about 10 mins. of severe pain in her back an collapsed. The pain
continued through the night as the paralysis became complete from the waist
down. She is now walking, the right leg generally stronger than the left.
She is now 13. She continues to get stronger although the neurological
changes are minimal. Another girl got ATM 3 days before my daughter, she was
13 at the time. Both girls were in the hospital together. She experienced
pain in her legs in the AM, and by the afternoon, was much worse and went to
the hospital. She lost all function from the waist down, and is still, 2+
years later in a wheelchair.
