Dear Aurore,

Thanks for all the info. I'm not really interested in getting into
acupuncture. I was just wondering what the needles in certain spots were
supposed to do, how they worked. I had heard of pressure points, in which
applying pressure to a certain spot supposedly relieved pain in another spot,
and I wondered if that was the same principle involved in acupuncture. This
morning I looked in a book I had forgotten I had entitled The Hidden Agenda
by Drs. David and Sharon Sneed. According to it, some researchers believe
acupuncture releases endorphins, natural painkillers. Some believe it is a
placebo effect or the power of suggestion. Others believe in a "gate theory",
which supposes there are neuropathway gates that acupuncture closes, blocking
pain messages. Others believe in a universal energy theory, which I don't
believe in.

Thanks again for taking the time to answer.
