I am new to this service and would like to know if someone has any good
ideas/treatments/doctors to suggest for me.
I was diagnosed with TM in 1967 at the age of 16, after having been
admitted to the hospital with polio as the original diagnosis. At the
hospital the doctors also gave the diagnosis Gullian Barre, but after a
few days/weeks settled for TM. The parallysis went all the way to the
point where i was put in a heart-lung machine and laster i had a
tracheomomy. After about 2-3 weeks i was able to breath by my self and
slowly regainged use of my upper body and partial use of my legs. Spent
about 8-9 months in the hospital and was then sent home in
wheel-chair/crutches. Over the years my medical situation has not
changed much except that have been experiencing some more back-pain.
Still today i am not very mobile. Need crutches to move around. However,
have been able to live a full life, travelling, having kids etc. At this
point I am not looking for any miracles just some alternatives to see if
there are ways to improve a little bit or at least do not get worse as i
grow older.
In the early years (first 5-10 years)i was fairly active doing
physiotherapy on a regular 2-3 times a week, while my activity and
training over the years have slowed down to close to nothing.
For your info i lived in Norway at the time i got TM but have for the
past 9 years lived in the US and am currently living in CT.
I hope to hear rom someone out there with similar experiences and
suggestions for what to do.
