Carolyn,

I don't know of a specific neuro specializing in TM, but I did read that
Johns Hopkins is one of the best hospitals for neurology. I read this in an
appendix of a book which quoted an article entitled "America's Best
Hospitals" from the June 15, 1992
U.S. News and World Report. Maybe you could call or write their chief
neurologist?
Their address and phone no. as of this publication area:

Johns Hopkins Hospital
600 North Wolfe Street
Baltimore, MD 21205
(301) 955-5000

Incidently, they were "best" in 13 specialties. The others who were best
in neurology, according to this survey, were the Mayo Clinic in Rochester,
MN, Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Cleveland Clinic in Ohio,
Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in NY, University of California San
Francisco Medical Center, and UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles.

The book I referred to is Every Parent's Nightmare. The whole second
half of it (197 pages) is about finding the right dr., how to avoid the wrong
dr., networking, understanding the medical system, taking charge, questions
to ask, dealing with different opinions, etc. This came out of the author's
experience with his son, who had a brain tumor at the age of 4. A dr.
operated and removed as much as he could, but said there was nothing more
that could be done. The son was getting worse and worse, and the father
launched out on his own trying to get information and answers. He found a dr.
who had operated on this type of tumor many times, they saw him, he did
surgery, and the boy was 12 years old and doing well at the end of the book.
I got this book through Christian Book Distributors for about $2.95. I just
checked and they have it now for $1.50, which I think means they must have it
on clearance. They have a web site at www.christianbook.com. For some reason,
I couldn't find it through their "search" function, but I did find it through
their "browse" function.
