Here is how my disability worked, we were living in Texas at the time
and if I remember correctly I was not eligable for SS disability till 6
months after the date I become disabled. I had long term disability
from my job and that kicked in after 2 months I think. We applied for
my SS disability at the 6 month mark and were living in Florida. I
received full SS disability, my husband also received disability cause
at that time we had a daughter under 16 and my daughter also received SS
benefits. Once our daughter turned 16 my husband stopped receiving
disability but they then increased our daughters check so it was like we
didn't lose anything. Her check will stop next month cause she will be
graduating. Once I started receiving SS disabilty my lomg term
disability lowered, they subtract what you get from SS and pay you the
difference, not counting my husband or daughters check. All in all this
helped tremendously!! I had been working for a little over 10 years
before I came down with TM. I had no problem getting my SS disability
and still have no problems but I am an incomplete quad and am totally
disabled. Not sure of the extent of others disability who are having
troubles.
