Demyelinating nerves

Hi all,

I know this is a question for my neurologist, but I won't be seeing him for
a couple of weeks. So I thought I would throw this into the group, see
what kind of feedback I get.

My sister is in town visiting. I was showing her some of the email, and a
TM description, to try to explain what this is. The description of
Myelitis, "myelinating of nerve endings" was brought up, and she said,
"That is what I've got!" Apparently, about five years ago or more, she
said her arm and hands were going numb, went to Dr., he told her to go see
a psychiatrist, which she did. She also was told she had chronic fatigue
syndrome, since she was tired all the time. When tested, was found she did
not have CFS. Then she had her three children, she told me it seemed worse
after each delivery, the numbness would return. She was finally sent to a
neurologist, given an MRI. The doctor told her that she had some
"demyelinization of nerves, possibly caused by a virus or MS". That is
what caused the numbness. She was supposed to return, but never went back
to the doctor.

My question is-Is there a less severe form of TM, which the doctors will
tell the patient it is "demyelinization of nerves", but not actually TM?
My sister had never heard of TM until I told her that is what I have.

Then back to someone who wrote a few months ago, I can't remember who that
was. They were asking if this was hereditary, because their father had it,
and uncle or aunt had it, and were concerned that They themselves might get
it. Could there be a link?

Thank you.
Debbie
