Linda,
I have applied for Social Security disability, but the SS office told me
that 90% of all applications are denied automatically, they expect you to
appeal. I guess it is a game they play to kill time. It is six months
before benefits start paying off, so if they deny it, that allows more
time. Also, if the doctor says "disabled under one year", it is
automatically denied. I am only 46, but I am no longer able to do the work
I have been doing, which is lift heavy furniture, lay flooring materials,
and install window coverings. (Right now, my husband has to lift my foot
to get on the first step of a step ladder) So, I am not really counting on
Social Security. As far as state disability goes, I have no knowledge,
since I am self-employed, so not qualified.
