Brenda,
I found your story really interesting, especially as it contained a
number of similarities to my situation that I haven't heard anyone else
mention. I, too, was really sensitive to cold, especially the first winter. I
could hardly stand to turn the tap water on in the winter to wash hands (it
takes forever for the hot water to get to the kitchen sink) or rinse
vegetables or even go outside to go to the car -- and we live in Georgia! I
wondered what would happen if my husband ever interviewed for a job anywhere
north of here. It was better this last winter, however. I have read that
others with TM had trouble with heat, and I read that is characteristic of
MS. Guess it depends on which nerves are affected.
I also had different colors on either side of my body -- not as
pronounced as yours, though. My left arm was much pinker than my right, and
still is sometimes, though not as much. And the left side of my face is
sometimes flushed.
We also wondered if we'd have to move to a single story house -- we have
a split level. The first few weeks, if my husband wasn't home, I'd have to
stay upstairs (we have no bathrooms on the main floor level -- just upstairs
and downstairs). I can handle stairs now, but that is where often my knee
feels like it's going to "give out", or my legs feel extremely heavy, or I
feel like a rod is in my spine from my waist to my bottom. All of that has
improved since the onset of TM, and I hope it will continue to. I figure
that's where I get most of my exercise. :-)
Have fun with your house! We had planned to renovate a 65 yr. old home
in South Carolina before we moved here (before TM), but I think it was too
far gone. Had major structural damage and consumed enormous amounts of time,
and would've taken more money than we had, even with doing the work
ourselves.
