Fortunately I didn't have to take steroids but I did experience
weight gain
from inability to exercise. Because it was so awkward to walk and I
would
experience periods when I would lose total control of my legs I
hesitated
to try any walks. Thought about walking with my cellular phone so I
could
call for help . Anyway, I found that swimming was the best
exercise -no
stress on back and I could use my legs as little or as much as they
were
willing to cooperate. It helped me tremendously mentally too
because I
finally felt like I was exerting myself.. I was able to join a "Y"
that
keeps the water temperature high. They do allot of classes for
seniors and
handicapped individuals, also have a lift it needed to get in and
out.
Am able to most anything now but am still swimming,,,:-)

GOOD FOR YOU!!!!
A great thing to do is swimming. The first year of my wife's TM we did
PT and OT five days a week with swimming PT at our local Y 2 nights a
week. It is a great way to exercise, burns lots of calories and very
little stress on the body.
WHAT a work out it use to give my wife. So those who can should. They
will see results but it takes a lot of work.
Don't give up, always a better way to build a mousetrap......
