My husband started on neurontin in October (his initial attack was in early
September of last year). It took about a week for the effects of the drug
to really begin to help him. He had severe paresthesia (pins and needles in
his legs and side) when he started the medication, and it seems to control
his leg symptoms quite well. He did have to increase from 2 pills a day to
3 and then to 4 before he got relief, but his neurologist said he could
actually take up to 6 if he needs to. It, however, does nothing for the
spiking spasms he has on his side. He is going back to the Dr. next week
and he is going to ask about baclofen and valium for additional relief.
This was recommended by another person in this newsgroup. Also, a cousin of
ours who is an anesthesiologist recommended that he consider taking an
anti-depressant as well, maybe elavil or prozak, because he has done some
research into TM and is convinced that it is as important to recovery to
alleviate stress and depression as it is to control the symptoms.
Hope this helps some.
