Mike,
Before I ever saw a neurologist the baffled doctors at the first
hospital I stayed in had a "shrink" visit me. I would have preferred a
psychological problem to TM. The hospital was going to release me
without a diagnosis. I refused to leave and at that point the
neurologist discovered the lesion at T5. We susequently described this
sequence of events to a couple of Psychiatrists and they were outraged.
The doctors who initially saw me were too willing and almost anxious to
diagnose a psychological problem when no other diagnosis was apparent.
I wonder how often TM and other rare diseases are missed this way.
Psychological diagnosis is the easy and inexpensive diagnosis and I
believe we are not alone in the boat.
good luck
