RE: Workers' Compensation

I guess I mean "trauma" to mean an external physical cause. I have cases
where I have quadraplegics and paraplegics from fractures of the vertebrae
causing direct damage to the spinal cord. My understanding of TM is that it
affects the lining of the spinal cord, not the spinal cord itself. My quad
and paras have no chance of recovering use of their extremities, their damage
is complete and irreversible.

If you want more information regarding this case, see the Lupus Forum at the
Lupus Foundation pages. My "injured worker" also has Lupus, which research
has shown can result in TM.

Actually, this case has been very good for the neurologists and several
physiatrists who are working on it for the injured worker and my company.
They have become much more aware of TM and the possible causes. It has
educated a lot of people in my company due to the costs involved in rehab,
etc. and has helped my quad and para because our research has given us some
new ways to deal with some of the problems (urinary, pulmonary, etc) that they
suffer from, too.

I'll keep researching and post any significant developments I discover.

Your worker does have a traumatic spinal cord injury. The question is
what caused it? DCJones
