Dear Barbara:

Thank you so much for such a beautiful and truly empathetic letter. Only
people that suffer from TM can understand what this illness does to us.

There is a young man who I met at physical therapy that suffers from chronic
myelitis. We frequently compare notes about strange sensations. It is
actually a comfort to know that there is someone who knows what your talking
about when you mention the odd feelings you get. For instance, my cat
jumped onto my lap the other day and I couldn't really feel her. I knew
something had happened and looked down and saw the cat. I was watching
television at the time. A short while later I looked down, fully expecting
to see the cat, and my lap was empty. But I still had the sensation the
she was there! It was truly odd. When I mentioned this to "Mark", he said
that he knew exactly what I was talking about and that when they remove the
belt that suspends him in the water during aquatherapy, he still has the
sensation that it is there. Do you and anyone else ever experience this?

Barbara, a fellow nursefriend of mine gave me a book called "Streams in the
Desert" by Mrs. Charles E. Cowman. It provides daily spiritual insight and
encouragement for a period of five years. Every day I read a new message.
Todays passage is beautiful. Its long but I really would like to share it:

"Do not look forward to the changes and chances of this life in fear.
Rather look at them with full hope that, as they arise, God, whose you are,
will deliver you out of them. He has kept you hitherto; do you but hold
fast to His dear hand, and He will lead you safely through all things; and
when you cannot stand, He will bear you in His arms.

Do not look forward to what may happen tomorrow. The same everlasting
Father who cares for you today will take care of you tomorrow, and every
day. Either He will shield you from suffering, or He will give you
unfailing strength to bear it. Be at peace, then, put aside all anxious
thoughts and imaginations."
