Errol,
Assuming that you have already considered doing all drinking in the morning
or putting a jug (or several) beside the bed, before you yearn for a Foley
consider a Texas catheter. There are downsides to a Texas (otherwise known
as an external male catheter) cath, one of which is the result of constantly
wet
skin. I wrote a note about these about a year ago.
I remember well when my Foley was to be removed. My Dad had dreaded
being cathed during his last two years, so I was predisposed to dread the
removal. The nurse was a young male, built like a lumberjack. Without any
mention of my Dad, I asked him how he was going to do it. "Simple", he said,
"I'll put a foot on your b___s and yank it like starting a lawnmower." I will
never forget that image.
