I have lesions in my brain. The attacks I've had that have been associated
with the brain lesions include optic neuritis, vertigo and other vision
problems. Having brain lesions is more concrete proof of having MS, but
there are other things that can cause similar looking spots on MRI. But,
my symptoms are MS and don't go along with those other diseases. But,
people can have MS without brain lesions of course. I am very, very
thankful that I have a progressive, informed neurologist who wanted me to
start on Avonex. It has really helped me. I still have symptoms, but
haven't had any major attacks since starting it. The National Multiple
Sclerosis Society now
recommends that people start on one of the ABC drugs as soon as they are
diagnosed with MS. Since it is not always easy to dx MS, I'm glad to see
so
many doctors recommending treatment without a positive dx. Researchers now
know that even when there aren't any outward signs of MS attacks, damage is
being done to the nerves inside the body. That damage is usually
permenant.
So that is really something to consider. If anyone needs more information,
please feel free to write to me. I do have some great web sites and info
that I would be glad to share. I hope everyone had a great 4th of
July! I went to the local, small town
celebration with my family and we had a good time. It wasn't too hot (we
sat in chairs out on the grass where it was cooler). But today when I got
up I was back to doing the "Frankenstein Walk"--in other words I am very
stiff today and walking like a wood soldier. Oh well....you can't have
everything in life, can you?
Take care....Sharon M.
