Hello Richard,
Welcome to our exclusive group of TM effected people. Hey you will never be
to old for a cure if it ever is found. I was fifty years and six months
old when I met up with TM, I had lead a very active life from working on
farms, to 23 years in the Royal Australian Air Force, driving armoured
trucks for a security company to bus and coach driving, I was a tour coach
driver when TM hit, actually on the job. After four months in a spinal
injuries unit of a large city hospital I started to get movement in one big
toe, the left one, departed the hospital in a wheelchair, however I had just
taken my first steps on Friday 27 May 1994, the first since my onset of
Friday 31 December 1993, a total of five months as an inpatient, then seven
months three days a week at a day rehabilitation hospital.
I walk now with the aid of two canes, mainly short distances however I have
done a couple of two mile marathons over a three hour time period. I
exercise regularly, work in an office full time, drive with modified
controls (Left foot pedals) still have the usual bladder and bowel hassles,
just getting over another UTI.
So as you can see I have been very lucky, but capitalized on that as much as
possible. I try to remain very focused on my recovery and improvements, I
tend to over do the exercises, and usually pay for it later, but it's worth
it I feel. I try never to lose sight of my big picture of what I wish in my
life, taking one day at a time mainly, but planning ahead just a little.
Any Richard, that's my few cents worth, be happy, safe, and as well as
possible, God Bless,
Kind Regards from Errol, Narangba, Queensland, Australia.
