Hello Norma,
The main things here at this time of year is Australian Rules Football, (and
it is played in some high schools in America) Rugby Union and Rugby League
football, Soccer and Hockey as far as sports. The schools here in
Queensland have just finished a two week holiday break today (Friday 02
July).
(Other important things are avoiding the flu, keeping warm, keeping dry as
it has been so wet this year. LOL).

We have our national day on 26 January, and usually have a long weekend on
the one nearest to the date. Each state has a long weekend at different
times. Ours is in early June. The capital cities also have a show day for
each cities agricultural show. Brisbane is in August, Sydney is at Easter
and I have forgotten the others. We do love our public holidays.
ANZAC memorial day is always 25 April, which commemorates the landing of
Australia and New Zealand Army Corps at Galiploi in 1914. We usually have
another long weekend in early May for what they now call Labor day, used to
bee called 8 hour day, commemorates the struggle by workers unions to get an
eight hour working day. I'll grab a calendar and try to scan the list of
main days or I will just type it if the darn scanner refuses to work, I
think it has gone on strike.
Kind Regards from Errol, Narangba, Queensland, Australia. (where it is cold
again tonight now that the rain has stopped and the overland westerly winds
are a blowin!!!).
