Hello Kasandra,
Just a short note to welcome you to this group.
Sorry to hear you have TM, but you are not alone, there is many of us here
over many years, so there is life after or with TM. Many have, like me
returned to work. I used to be a tour coach driver and now work in an
office full time, I walk short distances with the aid of two canes and drive
an automatic car. Also have the bladder problems, I am on ditropan for
control and have to self catheter. I have little sensation form the "fault
line" where my lesion is, T6 to T8. I exercise as much as I can and life
isn't so bad. Keep very focused on your rehab and work hard at it.
Kind Regards from Errol, Narangba, Queensland, Australia.

Subject: [TMIC] TM

Hi my name is Kasandra. I'm a 28 year mother of 2 and a wife. I was
diagnosed with TM about 2 weeks ago.

My story all began on May 25, 1999. I came home from work on May 24
with a pain in my upper neck. After abut 30 minutes or so it was gone.
I awoke about 1:00 A.M. on Tuesday with a pain in my left arm and my
neck. I began to feel dizzy and nauseated. I laid down and fell asleep
again and that morning when I woke up I was paralyzed. I could not move
or feel anything. I was then hospitalized. The doctors had no idea of
what I had so I was put in ICU and put on steroids for five straight
days. I was given a MRI on my spine and brain. The one on my brain was
normal, but the one of my spine showed swelling. I was hospitalized for
two weeks and released without an answer until my spinal tap results
came back. That's when I was diagnosed with TM.

I've been in therapy for about 1 1/2 weeks and I can now walk with and
without a cane. I'm not on any medications, but the numbness is still
here.
I have a couple of questions about TM since it's so new to me and my
family. Has anyone regained all of their feeling back? Are you on any
medications? Has anyone been able to return to work? I have numbness
mostly in my thumb and I'm experiencing sharp pains. Does anyone have
this problem? Have anyone recovered from bladder problems? Has anyone
had to get disability due to this problem?

Well, I guess this is it for now.
Thanks for taking time out to read my story.
