Hi Doc~

My dislike of taking medicine stems from a couple of things. One is the side
effects of some medicines -- sometimes worse than the symptoms they are
supposed to be helping. I also don't like not knowing what is "me" and what
is the medicine -- I feel sometimes I have a better idea of how I am really
doing when I am not on medications. Also, even though some medicines are
touted as okay now, you never know when some research will show a problem
with it. I do just have a fundamental dislike of taking medications -- I'm
not sure why. Some of it is just the hassle of keeping up with prescriptions,
having to take it into account when traveling, remembering to take it under
the "right" conditions (with or without food, etc.) I have wrestled with
whether or not it is a pride thing -- wanting to be fiercely independent and
not wanting to need meds (sounds silly, I know). I don't think that is the
case most of the time -- I think I'd just rather not have to deal with meds
and just get frustrated with my body and its falling apart.

Having said that, though, I will try medications my dr. recommends and will
weigh whether or not it helps and how much versus the side effects and all,
and I am VERY thankful to live in the age I do with the vast array of
medications available to us. I can't imagine living without Tums and
Tylenol!!
