My situation has had ups and downs since I posted about a year ago. Can't
remember the last posting I had, but the kids and I went to Germany to
visit former exchange students and they made an appt. for me to see a neuro
over there. He looked at my records, MRIs, x-rays, etc., he agreed with
the diagnosis the neuro I was seeing - except his outlook was that I will
not get any worse than I was then. This made me feel hopeful. He gave me
Rx - Tegretal, Elavil and another one (can't remember). Elavil made me
sleepy. Said, my body has to get used to it. I should take it for a month
and just sleep it off. Used the stuff for 1 1/2 months and my body
couldn't handle it. My physical doc here lowered the dosage and still had
problem with sleepiness. Taking care of 2 kids (6 and 8 yrs) - I can't be
sleeping all day long. So, now I am not taking any Rx. I started non-meds
regimen of massage, acupuncture and chiropractic. The acupuncture brought
back the feeling on my right arm, but didn't seem to change anything else.
The massage felt good, but same thing, didn't change much. Chiropractic
didn't help either. So, now, I am just taking multivatamins, cranberry
supplement (as I seem to be getting some sort of bladder infection), and
vitamin E.
My right foot feels like I have socks on all the time, gets cold real easy
when I take off my shoes, and my toes curl down whenever I put my weight on
it. This part kind of hurts a little. Been massaging it with this oil
that my mother-in-law sent called eucalyptus oil. Supposed to help with
muscle aches and pains. Does seem to help a little. My left leg (the
"good leg") is starting to act up. Fell a few times this month (muscle
spasm above the knee). Been using those "riding wheelchair" as my son
calls it at the stores. He likes it since he gets to ride with me once in
a while. That helps a lot. I'm still driving and doing things at the
kids' school and other activities. Just have to walk slower these days.
My church is starting a "disability awareness" group and am involved
somewhat in it. They have given me a number to call and get a scooter for
me. Said they will put up whatever the insurance company doesn't cover.
They know my only means of support is the social security I receive for
myself and the kids (my hubby died 6 yrs ago). This is going to be helpful
for me. Any suggestions on what kind is best? Or does anyone have
information as to who to contact about these things?
Sarah Sullivan - I'll keep your cousin in my prayers. I hope the docs can
do something to make him better.
I guess this is long enough for now. I'm just trying to update y'all with
my situation. Glad to read all those messages. They are all so uplifting
and informative. Next time, my messages will be shorter - I promise!
