About three months or six weeks, Rudy. It may depend
upon your age and weight. Do ask your doctor.

I had a full rear end suspension replacement in '93.
Because of my age, activity level, and weight, mine
was also a bone-growth device, not a cemented device.

You will not be able to cross your legs or bend over
for some time either. Hip joints are held together
by a "fire hose" of ligaments. A tee shaped cut must
be made in this tube to work on the contents. Until
that cut heals, you are at risk of a nasty dislocation.
And you must not fall down until it heals.

If you are squeamish, DO NOT view illustrations of
how it is done until you are in rehab. Just trust the
team; this is a routine procedure, albeit not pretty.

You can return to a desk job well before you can put
weight on it. I remember spray painting in the drive
way while on crutches. I also remember getting tangled
in the air hose, kicking backwards [at the buffer
tank, trying to clear the tangle] and severely
damaging my Achilles tendon of the other leg. That
put me back into the wheelchair for a while.

Mine was also in early summer. To go swimming, I used
an old pair of crutches to wade out to deep water.
I towed them behind me while I swam and went on them
again before wading out. Swimming is recommended.

Alton, whose best hip is now titanium.
