>From the textbook,
"Principles of Neurology" by Raymond Adams,
Maurice Victor, and Allan Ropper, sixth edition,
McGraw-Hill, ISBN 0-07-067439-6, chapter 44
"Diseases of the Spinal Cord", pages 1239-1242,
"Myelitis Secondary to Bacterial, Fungal, Parasitic
and Granulomatous Diseases",

1 Epidural intrusion resulting in a spinal epidural
abscess is discussed on pgs 1240-1241. [The book
discusses other mechanisms of an infection.]

2 "Staphylococccus aureus is the most frequent
etilogic agent, followed by streptococci, gram-
negative bacilli, and anaerobic organisms."

3 "At first, the suppurative process is accompanied
only by fever and pain in the back, followed
within a day or several days by radicular pain in
most cases. ... After several more days, there is
the onset of a rapidly progressive paraparesis
and paraplegia, associated with sensory loss in
the lower parts of the body ... all the signs of
a transverse cord lesion."

My neurologist has an earlier edition of this book.
I got my copy from AMAZON.COM for about $85.
