In Australia there is a really great organisation called 'Riding for the
Disabled'. They work on getting the disabled back in the saddle or in the
saddle for the first time. I haven't been for a ride myself but have seen
their work first hand and to see the look on the faces of the kids when they
are on the back of a horse for the first time is priceless.
Your friends may want to look up their web page for inspiration or ideas -
the address is www.rda.org.au or an e-mail contact - Sue
Cusack -scusack(AT)rda.org.au
Keep us up to date on their progress, its always encouraging to hear of
people helping each other.
Love Karyne

Subject: [TMIC] Horse Back Riding For Therapy
>Hello all,
>I have a good friend down here in SC that owns a large horse farm. She and
>her husband are about to start building a large enclosed horse arena. They
>would like to offer some sort of horse back riding for disabled people or
>just children. Her sister has GB and that has made them extremely
interested
>in helping the disabled. They would like to know if anyone knows who one
>would contact to find out, and information at all about what sort of
>equipment they need to install in this building. I believe there are some
of
>you that use this type of therapy or your children do and I think this is a
>great idea they have. They are not asking for money to help them build
their
>arena, they just don't want to build the thing and realize they have a lot
of
>modifications to add in order to help people. I would appreciate anything
at
>all that you know.
>Thanks.
