Re: [TMIC] To all of those I worried...

Dear Barb (and anyone else I have confused).

No, tpn is not personal at all ;-) TPN stands for total parenteral
nutrition...that is, iv nutrition. I have a permanent iv line in my chest
and receive the iv nutrition through that around the clock. tpn is far from
a good solution since it can result in many complications...not the least of
which is septicemia (blood infection) which I got when I was on tpn in
January. That is why I must keep a close eye on my temp. The labs have to
be watched because the organs (particularly the liver) can go into failure
when they are not used. I had to go on tpn because a huge battery of tests,
and simple trial and error, proved that neither my stomach nor my intestines
were absorbing food. The stomach simply does not absorb or empty, and any
formula we put through my J tube (into my intestines) backs up and sits in my
stomach. That is why I have to use the drainage or suction machine (via a
tube in my stomach) to empty my stomach several times each day. I am full of
tubes right now!

Whoa! I am sorry if I told too much. It is complicated to explain and once
I get started....

btw, please let me know how you are doing!
