Hello all,
Just to let you know that I am back on line again after some 14 weeks off
the list for various reasons. Well to recap, my wife, Mavis and self went
on our three week holiday south and it was very successful and pleasant, saw
our son and his family along the way, went to a wedding and a 50 th birthday
party and visited several in-laws. We arrived safely back home on Friday
19 February and back to work Monday 22. I was only back at work until
Monday 01 March and had to be at a local large private hospital 6.30 am
Tuesday 02 March for some surgery to the right leg, ankle and foot to
correct some damage as a result of my TM onset back in December 1993. The
problem was that I had a lot of spasticity in that area and my walking was
not getting much better, the gait was not good, so the surgeon did the
following,
1. lengthened right tendo Achilles,
2. lengthened right tib post, and
3. right splatt, ( transfer part of the tendon that goes toward the big toe
area to the other side of the foot near the little toe area) as I
understand. I was in hospital for 12 days and home on sick leave for two
further weeks, (where I work, there is a very generous sick leave policy as
part of an enterprise bargaining agreement). and back at work for three
weeks. Well the plaster cast came off on Thursday 15 April and what a
fully scaly smelly leg and foot it was, but the walking has improved even
with the plaster cast on for those six weeks and two days (who's counting).
Now that the cast is off I am wearing a brace on the left leg and foot only
to help strengthen that side and I actually can walk well without it some
afternoons as I take it off for a spell now and then. I am walking more
upright whereas I used to walk bent over some and the gait is improving, so
I am off to the Physio starting Tuesday evening (more lovable torture). I
shall be in the heated pool again soon and so far so good, the operation
seems to be a great success, I never had any doubts as the surgeon is a
specialist in this field, of correcting problems from various reasons, he
does terrific work with some children born with problems.
Any way folks, stay tuned, as I strengthen and get the somewhat stiff right
leg end ankle mobile again I am expected to maybe get rid of at least one
walking cane. It feels strange not having a brace of something on that leg
as I have had something on there for so long now, but I must admit it feels
great.
Once again I am rambling again, well as you may gauge I am a bit excited
about it all. I have waited until now to re-subscribe to the list because
I had to over come a pressure spot on the old butt and having gone back to
work three weeks early, I was just darn worn out. Well thanks for
listening and also thanks for your concern while I have been off line for so
long, it was nice to know you were all there. Well it is Sunday afternoon
at 2.30 pm and I must go for another short exercise walk, look forward to
chatting again, I have kept up to date checking the list & archives.
Kind Regards from Errol in Narangba Queensland, Australia.( where summer
finished last month and it is now autumn (your fall I think) and getting a
little cooler).
