Angela - welcome to the group. I know what you mean about the weight
thing. I am a Lifetime Member of Weight Watchers, which meant I lost
my weight and kept off for a few months. Actually - I kept it off for
about three years.....then came breast cancer and myelitis. So - I
gained it all back, and lots more. I have joined Weight Watchers
again, and am determined to get back down to a healthy weight. Should
take a few years I am guessing.

There have been occasionally exchanges about the shoe situation. For
many of us who can still walk, one of the minor irritations is having
to wear tie shoes. Glamour? What glamour? If we complain too much
those who can't walk gently remind us to stop whining.

Driving has also been an issue - especially since most of my driving
involves two lane roads going through steep hills - lots of twisty,
turny, sharp drop offs, etc. There are times when I feel its just too
dangerous.

Take care of yourself and let us know how you are doing....Ann

Hi Everyone,
I've been lurking in the background since about January of this
year. I
have learned so much from everything I have read here. You are all
terrific
people and wonderful support for all of us TM people. My name is
Angela,
I'm 46 years old and was diagnosed with TM on July 11, 1998. I was
simply
sitting in my living room at about 8:30 a.m. having a cup of coffee
with a
friend when my back when numb and it went down my body to my toes.
Before
you knew it I was paralyzed by my arm pit to my toes. I was
immediately
taken to the hospital in the spinal clinic and given all the usual
tests,
MRI, blood tests, and spinal tap. I was in the hospital for one week
and
then went to rehab. I came home with a walker and then used a cane
and now I
am determined not to use anything. I still have numbness in my back
to my
toes. I still have problems with my bladder and bowels but I feel
like I am
doing really well. I pretty much go to work full time. My boss is
great and
tells me to do what I can and that will be fine. I have a difficult
time
driving since I don't feel anything in my feet.
It hard to wear shoes except if they tie, so needless to say I
pretty
much stay in sneakers.

I am mostly frustrated because I have always been over weight
but in
the last two years I began working out and lost about 75 pounds and
was
really looking good. Then all of a sudden I got TM and needless to
say I
have a very difficult time working out. I also gained most of my
weight
because of not working out and then of course the steriods.

I have had a couple of relapses and wound up in the hospital,
but I
really do feel pretty well. I have a very difficult time going up and
down
the steps which is the hardest part to deal with.

Oh well, I guess I told you enough about me, thanks for
listening.
Your support on this board has really helped me out many many times.

Angela
