Hi to all,
I am a 38 year old female who has a spastic paralysis
for the past 37 years. As an 11-month-old infant, I was
diagnosed with Guillian-Barre Syndrome. I took Trancopal
for years. The paralysis was from approx. 1 inch above
my waist down. My arms are affected slightly, in that the more I work my arm muscles, the tighter they become.
I recovered most of my feeling, but my legs have a mind of their own. They basically have two positions: rigidly-straight and pulled inwards. To top it off both hips were congenitally dislocated. Over the past 20 years I have become morbidly obese(slightly over 300 lbs). I take 20 mg. baclofen 4 times a day and Soma 350 mg. 3 times a day for the spasticity. I also take Lodine 300 mg. 3 times a
day for the painful osteoarthritis in my hip joints. As you can see, I've pretty much maxxed out on the nerve medication. My doctor even added 25 mg. Elavil at bedtime
to try to help my leg nerves become less cantankerous.

What, if any, new drugs are available to help me in my quest
to stay in my wheelchair and out of the floor. I enjoy
teaching middle school special ed., and want to keep my
independence as long as possible. Thanks for listening.
