Good Afternoon,
My name is Morgan Hoge. I have a daughter who is now 23 months old. She
was diagnosed with Acute Transverse Myelitis when she was 6 months.
Initially, she was paralyzed from the neck down and hospitalized for 18
days. She was hospitalized in Childrens Hospital in Pittsburgh. Her
recovery is still progressing although pretty slow. She is now able to move
her arms pretty well, sit up on her own, pull herself around the house with
her arms and feed herself. She is still pretty weak in the lower back and
her legs will stiffen during weight bearing exercises and will occasionally
move and flex. We are not real sure what is going on with her legs. She is
in occupational and physical therapy three days per week and we are cathing
her three times per day. The therapists are encouraged with her progress
and have been a big help. My wife and I are now at a point where we feel
that we would like a second opinion from a neurologist and possibly a
urologist to determine if we are doing all that can be done, should be done
or if we are overlooking anything. We are located in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania and have been considering Cleveland Clinic or John Hopkins. We
don't want to go some where that they have very little or no knowledge of
TMI, we don't think that would be worth while. So our request is for any
information concerning doctors/hospitals in the Northeast(or elsewhere) who
may have had more experience with TMI in children.
Thanks for your time!
