poliomyelitis = limited to gray matter

leukomyelitis = limited to white matter

transverse myelitis = whole cross sectional area of the cord

diffuse or disseminated = multiple and vertically widespread

meningomyelitis = combined inflammation of meninges and s.c.

meningoradiculitis = meninges and root involvement

pachymeningitis = spinal dura

All this and a dollar gets you a cup of cheap coffee.
