Hi all! I had TM in June of 1976 when I was 24. My symptoms were a sore
throat and a flu like pain in my arm. Within 24 hours I was paralyzed from the
neck down, including my bowels and bladder. I was given large doses of
steroids. I was hospitalized for 6 months (2 of which was in a rehab
hospital). The feeling in my limbs started to come back slowly and I
rehabilitated myself to almost a full recovery. I am now 46 years old and a
mother of an 11 yr old son. I went back to work 6 months after I was diagnosed
and have worked since. I too have residual things from my illness (spastic
bladder, spastic colon, equilibrium is off a little and test positive for
babinsky. But, I never, ever thought once that I would not recover. It never
entered into my mind that I would not recover (maybe that helped). Well God
Bless and Good Luck to all who are still recovering. It truly was like a
nightmare, almost like it never happened. PS I always live each day to the
fullest and am happy as long as I wake up and fell well. That's all that's
important in life!
