Steroid dosage

This is a technical question that I'm sure one of you will have the answer
to.
What would be the standard dose of steroids, what type would be used and for
how long in a case of acute tm? I'm sure this varies depending upon the
severity of the symptoms and the viewpoint of the neurologist but some idea
would be useful. If somebody could direct me to an authoritative source ie
textbook entry or medical journal article then that would be even better.

I am soon going to see my original neurosurgeon with some questions about my
treatment.
Because I was originally misdiagnosed with a spinal cord tumour, I was never
given actual steroid treatment for my myelitis only oral steroids before and
after the spinal cord biopsy which I had. Accurate information would help
me to present my case better. Thank you in advance for your help.
