Hello Everyone,
This is my first posting to the list asking for advice or past experiences you
have had. I have been reading the list for a while and have answered a few
letters. First I would like to say that just reading all the encouragement
everyone gives to each other is wonderful. Now for my situation and problem.
I am a 42 year old female and was dx in 7/98. My original symptoms were loss
of use of my left leg, numbness on the right side from the t-6 down, double
vision, numbness in my left eye and nostril, constipation, no bladder feeling,
and no pain or temperature feeling in my hands. I think there may have been
more, but it all seems so long ago I just can't remember. I am improving
somewhat. My left leg works now and I am able to walk for short distances. I
took up rug hooking, and it seems to help my right arm. I am still numb and
still have problems walking up hill and such. My husband and I talked this
weekend about moving to a flatter area. I really hate to move my children.
We live in the mountains of SC and are living in a house that we have not
finished building yet. I have a hard time making it up the hill to my car (I
started driving again last November) With all of your experiences, I was
wondering if any of you moved to make your life easier or if you just waited
it out and were able to adapt to your surroundings. All of my doctors, kids
swim team and most of the work is about 45 minutes from our home. I get so
tired just driving sometimes. Does this tiredness ever go away? I have been
in PT for a month and last week I guess I worked to hard because my right legs
felt dead to me and I still hurt a lot. I am going to try and go back
tomorrow and not do as much. The PT has helped me with my balance and for
that I am grateful. SS just turned down our request this weekend so I would
like some advice as to what I can do about that. I do have private disability
insurance, but would like to get back to work if at all possible. I think I
would need to be able to stay awake for a longer period of time first though.
I did not do physical labor. I am an accountant and am scared about the
stress involved also with my job. Well, I guess I have asked a lot so thank
you in advance for your advice.
