Hi Jenny,
I can understand your frustrations 100%. Sometimes a patient wonders why
the doctors even ask questions,if they're not going to believe the answers
anyway.
Doctors that have never saw TM,rely on accepted written diagnostic and
treatment practices.
Doctors that are familiar with TM,rely not only on the"how to" books, but from
their prior experiences dealing with TM patients.Unfortunately for patients
and future patients, these prior experience doctors are few and far inbetween.
I applaud your efforts on wanting to educate all doctors about TM. Also,I
think some could use some training in recognizing and dealing with a patient's
frustrations.
To be told "you look good",when you're dealing with TM symptoms,is
frustrating!
To insinuate that a patient is "phsyco",is very frustrating! I think that
shows they are"grasping for straws." Also,it shows inexperience.
Knowledge derived from a format of TM education is in dire need! You did pass
up a golden opportunity to educate the "muscular"neurologist in Vermont that
laughed when you told him you had TM. He was covering up for his lack of
knowledge! To further his education, you might have said loudly:"You mean that
your a doctor and you don't even know what Transverse Myelitis is?" Guarantee
he would have hit the books asap!
In so far as your husband's lack of support and practically calling you a
liar,I believe you can handle that!
God Bless You,
Phil
