Dear Mykella,
I understand exactly what you are going through!!! In October,I had a
three week stay at a nursing home/rehab place. I was completely trusting
at first when all of a sudden I was being given a new pill for 3 ddays
and chastised for asking. When someone finally told me it was for
hypothyroid, I didn't question it after the nurse sharply replied- "if
its there, then you dr. obviously ordered it!!" on day four it wasn't
there along with my meds and when I asked about it they said-"Honey
you've never had hypothyroid meds ordered. I then realized I got the
pills of the patient in the next bed; That explained why I got so
constipated, why I was awake with horrible cramps in my legs those 3
nights, and also why my roommate was so sedated and grumpy!!!. There was
no "Proof" that I did not receive the correct meds although my husband
did witness my taking that light green pill two of the days.,and no-one
seemed to know who exactly gave those meds. But I started paying
attention after that and do you know that 5 times after that I got the
wrong dosage of baclophen in the cup and other times medication was not
in the cup that I should have received!!! After complaining to the head
nurse- not my style usually- they still made errors. After my cup came
with no baclophen one more time I checked out a week before I was due to
leave- I was such a "basket-case!" I did write the administrators about
it and the licensing board is investigating. Because I was ill, they
"Pooh-poohed" my concerns like I was mentally incompetant and that
infuriates me!!!!
Sweetie, I wish I had been tougher, but I felt at their mercy. But we do
have the right to see our meds and charts and my survival the last 3 days
there depended on my insisting on a sheet near my bed and double-checking
the sheet against what was brought to me 3 times a day!!!! Oh my!!!!
Take care of yourself because no one else will!! You're too valuable not
to!!! Hugs, Karen (Mushroo)
