Since I posted the message Saturday my husband and I got more information what
happened. Derrick was driving - it was freezing rain. He hit a patch of ice
and hit an embankment which launched the car 45 ft into the air. He was
thrown about 100 ft from the car and apparently landed on the road. The brain
swelling is supposed to be worst on the 3rd day - tommorrow (Monday). The drs
said it is going to be a roller-coaster ride for a while. His skull is
fractured, his shoulder broken, his spleen and liver lacerated. He also has a
contusion on his lung. They have not taken care of any of those things yet,
because they need to get the brain swelling taken care of. He remains
unconcious, but he may be responding - it is too hard to tell. My husband and
I will be driving the 5 hours this weekend to be with him and the rest of the
family. I will print out your messages for his mother. I know she will be
very touched and grateful. Thank you all again from the bottom of my heart
Nancy
