Hi All -
Well, after four months of bouncing around between the neuro-surgeon and the
neurologist, I finally started steroid treatment this morning. All the
bouncing was because I have a herniating disk at C5-6, as well as myelitis
as C1-2. The neurologist felt that the worsening of my symptoms was because
of the herniated disk. The neuro-surgeon didn't there was enough spinal
compression there, and the symptoms were due to something else. The
neurologist wanted the neuro-surgeon to fuse C5-6. The neuro-surgeon wanted
the neurologist to prescribe steroids. Argghhh. Had a myelogram a few
weeks ago. The neuro-surgeon said he would not fuse the disk. I talked to
the neurologist yesterday - he wanted to have a consultation with the
radiologist to verify the results. I kind of lost it. I have been
continuing to go down hill for months. Walking is getting really bad.
Sleep is disrupted from pain. I only can drive short distances. So - he
did prescribe the steroids. I really hate taking them, but they do help
stop the most irratating symptoms. I've already warned my husband that I
may become a raving maniac, or at least very crabby. Ann
