My heart goes out to you. I think John's advice was very good -- to talk to a
therapist (maybe the neurologist you mentioned could refer you to someone) and
see what they might recommend to do in your mom's case. I really don't know,
but I wouldn't think this would be a good time to back away, though she seems
to be pushing away right now. Sometimes it is when people are most trying to
wall themselves in and away from others that they most need others to show
they care. I know it is so painful. This is just a thought; I'm way out of my
element here, but I wonder if it would help to appeal to her on the basis of
you and your family? If she can't find reason to want to live for herself,
maybe knowing how much you all need her and want her would let her know she
has ample reason to continue on? Will be praying -- keep us posted.
