Yesterday at 9:30am I was on the O.R. table getting my 3rd baclofen
pump. Only the pump was changed. The catheter going to my spinal
columnis still the original that was put in place for my first pump on
July 17, 1989.
I was awake during the whole procedure, but was not able to watch it in
the mirror relection of the surgical light because they pulled the drape
too far over my head. I tried to get them to lower it, but they
wouldn't.
I have about a 5 inch incision only lower left abdomen.I spent the night
in the hospital. The docotor keeps people overnight and to monitor the
blood gases to make sure that there is not too much medication which
would relax the respiratory system.
For pain, I took 2 Percocet(oxycodone/apap 5/325) at 6:00pm last night
and 2 this morning when I was in the hospital. I have a 'script for 35
more of which I took 2 when I got home. I will let you know if I become
'addicted' as stated by Sabryna's "quackopractor".
Percocet causes constipation and as a precautionary measure, I was given
Pericolace(casathranol & docusate sodium). I took it years ago when it
was a prescription item. It is now an over the counter item.
Colace(docusate sodium) is a stool softener and casathranol(causes
peristalic action) is a mild laxative. One an also get just
Colace(docusate sodium) over the counter.

P.S. You know you are getting old when the doctors are younger than you
are!
P.P.S. The resident neurosurgeon, who discharged me, could have been my
daughter. She asked if she could see my 'belly'. I said "Yes.", but
then I said "You mean my abdomen!"
