This is a common risk in being prostrate.
The large muscles of the legs help push
the blood back to the heart. When these
are not being used, you have a problem.
I think it is exacerbated by the edema
associated with the steroids.

I had daily needles of a "blood thinner"
(Lovenox?) for over three months until
the day they discharged me.

I'm very sorry that Craig had this. The
lungs, being in the path of all blood
flow, are a common site for the embolus
to lodge. I think recovery will be complete.
