Alton, Lynn and all,
I agree with you completely and would like to do the same thing. I
spoke to my daughter and son-in law after I received your letters. My
son-in-law asked us to please wait until they can get a reliable
diagnosis and know exactly what we're dealing with.
I do understand his position, and ask that we all respect his wishes.
He works in the ER of the hospital where this doctor practices and said
he has to deal with him on a daily basis. It could cause him some
problems with his job. He is applying at other hospitals in north
Fla and will be moving as soon as possible. But in the meantime, he's
in an awkward position here.
I never realized how much 'politics' is involved in the practice of
medicine, especially hospital medicine! Oh, and by the way, they
received the bill for Bryna's 2 1/2 days inpatient stay----almost
$10,000 !!! That is unbelievable! The charge for a chest X ray was
$235 !! Our hospital here in town, which is city-owned, charges $27
for an X ray. I just had one done 3 months ago, so that is current
charges.
Their insurance is an HMO and has a share of cost or some such thing,
so they don't know yet how much of that they will have to pay. Roy, my
son-in-law, is a super nice young man who works two jobs so his wife
can be home with the kids. He works full time in the ER and part time
as a paramedic in a neighboring county. I know not many mothers-in-law
brag about their sons-in-law, but this one is a great guy and a very
good friend.
Just as soon as Roy gives the 'go-ahead' I'll send the name and address
to you.
Thanks for caring
Alice
