IN NOMINE Partris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sactini. Amen.
The most intelligent people in the world are not people who know
everthing, but are the people who know where to find things and how to
apply them(i.e. JHarper33)
There was a recent letter regarding depression. Some of us have been
through it. From the National Institute of Mental Health--
http://www.nimh.nih.gov/publicat/ptdep.htm#ptdep1 (JUNK?)
Two of the signs of depression
--Restlessness, irritability(ex."Please stop wasting my time.")
--Persistent physical symptoms that do not respond to treatment, such
as headaches, digestive disorders, and chronic pain(MANY OF US!)
Keeping mind busy significantly helps depresssion.(VOICE OF EXPERIENCE!)
Re: Jokes---"Laughter is the best medicine!" Patch Adams?
My late cousin(my mentor) was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Disease at the
age of 16. She lived for 17 years with the disease and she was always
joking.
I have mentioned this before, but I will do it again. When I was going
through the blind study for the baclofen pump, I had 16 electrodes
connected to me. i could watch the output of 8 of them on a graph. When
I was talking the doctor would have to tell me to "Shut up!" When I did,
the activity on the graphs would INCREASE!
Re: Religion--We are all CHILDREN of GOD!
When I was 19, I watched my father suffer with leukemia for 8 months. He
would get the chills and I will never forget the day that the chills
were so bad that the nurses piled 5 blankets on him and he was still
SHAKING! Tell me where HELL is!
There was a minister who had bone cancer. He was confined to the
hospital. Every time my father was admitted, they would put him in the
room with the minister. The Reverend was SKIN and BONES. He was in
constant pain. He got morphine very 4 hours. Today they let you have it
when you want it.
He would slide down in bed. The nurses would come in and pull him up. I
saw the PAIN in that MAN'S EYES many a time and I PRAY that no one has
to suffer the PAIN that he went through! Tell me where HELL is!
When I was 27,my late brother drowned at the age of 17 in our hometown
swimming pool. He was certified by the American Red Cross as a
Lifeguard. He was also a certified SCUBA diver.
He was lifeguarding at the time. He was given CPR and transported to the
hospital where he coded. They zapped him. He was in a coma on life
support for the next 10 days. I can still see the SCAR on his chest from
the zapping.
An EEG was done. There was no activity. Back then one had to wait 24
hours and have another EEG done and if there was no activity then the
plug could be pulled.
That is the worst 24 hours I ever been through! WE PULLED THE PLUG! TELL
ME WHERE HELL IS!
Re: Prayer
When I was put first put in the hospital in a small town on a Sunday
night for TM, the family doctor(also a family friend)didn't know what I
had. He put me in isolation and just gave me vitamins. When my mother
came to visit the next day, I asked her to uncross my legs. She went out
and called the doctor and told her she wanted me transferred the
hospital where my late father had been treated.
The doctor talked to the hematologist that was my late father's doctor.
The hematologist told him that I needed a neuro.
On Tuesday as I was being wheeled out to the ambulance, no one knew
whether i was going to the hospital that was a 2 1/2 hour drive or the
one that was a 4 hour drive. As I was being put into the Cadillac
ambulance(gas hog--we stopped for gas about half way), I found out that
it was the one that was a 2 1/2 hour drive.
When I was being wheeled down the hall, I saw the clock on the wall. It
was 10 minutes to 1. The next thing I remember was seeing 2 surgeons
masks. Then I felt a sudden pain in my throat. I had stopped breathing
and a trach was being performed.
Somebody's PRAYER was answered!
The day after my brother passed away the Pastor(an alcoholic nobody
liked) came over to the house. He told my mother that he would not be
able to say the Mass and that one of the younger Priest, whom my brother
liked, would say the Mass. After the Pastor left my mother had a big
smile on her face. She said she had prayed that he would not say the
Mass. Her PRAYER was answered.
I am not a church goer, but I DO BELIEVE and I DO PRAY and I DO LIKE TO
JOKES!
Thank you Phil for giving me the encouragement to relieve some stress
that was induced by a certain letter.
Thank you also to those who have read this far.
To quote the late Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., " ....... when we allow
freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every tenement and every
hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up
that day when all of God's children,
black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics,
will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro
spiritual, "Free at last, free at last. Thank God Almighty, we are free
at last."
In this country we are FREE to read or not read!
Been there, done that and still kickin' after 27 years,
John
P.S. I attend the Church of the Holey Mattress every Sunday.
