I have cancer along with TM. In one of my cancer booklets entitled Managing
Cancer Pain there is a mention of drugs for tingling and burning pain. They
mention Antidepressants: Amitriptyline, imipramine, doxepin, trazodone or
Anticonvulsants: Carbamazepine and phenytoin. Although I experience burning
of the feet I have not tried either of these drugs. I have yet to ask my
doctor about the drugs.
The benefits of the Antidepressants is help controlling tingling or burning
pain from damaged nerves. They also improve sleep.
Risks: dry mouth, sleepiness, and constipation. Some cause dizziness and
lightheadedness when standing up suddenly.
Anticonvulsants help control tingling or burning from nerve injury
Risks: may hurt liver and lower the number of red and white cells in the
blood.
