Hello Alice,
I am so very sorry to hear of your grandaughters illness. It seems the
general consensus of this group is that the doctors aren't doing enough. I
can't agree more. My daughter was diagnosed with TM in 4/98. If not for the
quick action of her GP that sent her to the hospital for tests, because things
"didn't add up". (Her initial symptoms were excruciating chest/back pain,
tingling and weakness in legs). She would not have had the recovery she has
had and may very well not be with us today. Her TM was ascending, beginning
with tingling in toes. An MRI was ordered on the 3rd day of hospitalization
and within 24 hrs she was paralyzed from the chest down and breathing with
difficulty. An immediate high dose of SoluMedrol was administered when the
neuro saw the MRI. I would suggest asking to see a neurologist and an MRI
immediately. If it is a spinal inflamation, the quicker treated the better.
By the way, the first doctor that saw her in an out of town ER diagnosed her
with pleurisy and said the pain is normal and to give her pain pills. I have
learned that doctors are not God (even though some of them think they are)
Best of Luck-she is in our prayers.
