I thought I would put in my thoughts on this. I wouldn't be a bit
surprised if this were true. I have heard things such as this in
several places. There was a women in my Weight Watchers class who got
terrible vision problems supposedly from aspartame - and the leaders
didn't seem to dispute it - but only said that some people get a
reaction. Another thing that makes me think there might be something to
this - there are so many more people popping up with TM. Sharon (in
Texas) on this list just told me her nurse has seen quite a few new
cases. There has to be a reason of some type for so many people to be
getting TM. It "could" be aspartame.
The part I can't figure out, though, is that Bill has TM and my Dad
had Alzheimers. Neither one (Bill or Dad) would touch diet drinks or
any diet product. So I'm wondering if it is in something and they got
the diet product without knowing it. Or,.....they both drank - not
excessively but quite a bit socially. I wonder sometimes if the
drinking (alcohol) is somehow related to the health problems.
Everyone seems to be posting about aspartame so I thought I would
ramble on a little bit about our lack of use of it here. I have heard
that it caused neurological problems, though, like I said a lot of
places - articles in magazines and things like that. But, like I said,
the people that I know of with TM don't even like diet products so that
part doesn't make any sense to me.
One more thing---I still really really don't understand why nothing
is on television or in the news about Acute Transverse Myelitis. When I
was a kid like about 5 or 7---a great big thing was to talk about polio,
people with polio, etc. and I was only a kid. I don't see how this list
can get a "newbie" about daily - and yet nothing in the news about this
disease. ????? If the Doctors aren't coming on tv and talking about it
like they do with other diseases I would have to conclude that they
don't know much about it.
I'm sorry if I went on too long. Just some thoughts from a
non-medical person.
