You asked if anyone else may have gotten TM from an injury. In March 93 I was
hit by a van. I was squatting down at a gas station, and a lady backed into
me. She hit my right side, and pushed down to the ground and dragged me
several feet. Her rear tire was on my lower back. I fell / was pushed onto a
orange safety cone on my left side, and so although the left side of my face
was dragged along the concrete and scratched up, the rest of my left side was
okay.
Drs. said I had a bulging disk in my lower back as a result. I had some
comings and goings of numbness in my legs and hands, but no one did a MRI on
my upper back (cervical and thoracic) until my 2nd neuro when I saw him this
summer. I had some classic TM symptoms that made him do the upper MRI. My
lesion is at C7 and I can't help but think that when I was being pushed into
the concrete ontop of the cone, that my upper spine was also affected. I
never had any problems before that. The force from the van was tremendous and
I remember feeling like I was being crumpled into a ball.
Enough about me...It made me sad for you that your family thought your
problems may be in your head. I don't know you, but how can anyone conjure up
these symptoms, or why would they even want to??? Some people believe that
all sickness is in peoples heads, but still recoginze that the symptoms are
real and need to be treated. Don't minimize yourself or what you are feeling.
This group is great and has a lot of support to give if your family cannot
seem to give you what you need.
