The neuro that was assigned to me when I first went into the hospital with
what later turned out to be TM, told me that I would be in the recovery
process for 2 years before arriving at what would be anything near "normal".
Onset for me was Oct 13, 1996. So it's a slow recovery at best. He also said
that during that time I would experience more pain as the nerves began to
transmit signals. There were times that it seemed like I was not getting any
better. There were also times when it seemed like I even regressed a bit. I
have always been amazed at how progress in this disease is measured by very
small amounts over long periods of time. We just have to keep doing the best
we can at taking care of our general health so that we don't add to the
problems that TM brings. TM sure teaches us that there's no substitute for
patience and perseverance when dealing with the central nervous system.
We're all pulling for Alan's continued recovery. May this be a blessed
Christmas for you both.

Subject: Is It Plateau???
Hi to All!
I spoke to Alan last night, and he said he hasn't seen ANY change for at
least 3 weeks now. He is in his 4th month with TM now. He is able to
walk in house (a little) with crutches, but still in "chair" most of
time. Also body functions still zero. Still has no feeling in the
bottom of his feet. As a worried mom. I wonder---is he going to get
much better, or is this it??? He does still work out, but his PT says he
doesn't have much more to offer him. Guess I would just like to have a
little encouragement.
We have learned from all your letters, that everyone seems to be
effected in different ways. We feel very blessed that Alan's lesion was
as low as it was. He is to see a new neuro Dec. 29. Hopefully he will
be more knowledgable than the first one on TM.
Someone also mentioned taking cortisone therapy more than the initial
round. Does anyone feel that would be helpful?
My heart just breaks for all of you---You're in my prayers!
Connie
