PLAINSBORO, N.J., Dec. 22 /PRNewswire/-- Integra LifeSciences Corporation
(Nasdaq: IART) today announced that the United States Patent and Trademark
Office issued U.S. Patent Number 5,833,665 titled "Polyurethane-Biopolymer
Composite." This patent is licensed exclusively to Johnson & Johnson Medical,
Division of Ethicon, Inc. and covers BIOPATCH(TM) Antimicrobial Dressing,
indicated to inhibit gram (+) and gram (-) organisms on the skin around
percutaneous devices such as catheters. BIOPATCH(TM) Dressing has been on the
U.S. market since 1993.
BIOPATCH(TM) Dressing is composed of a hydrophilic polyurethane absorptive
foam with chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG), an antimicrobial compound. The
product is applied over the entry point of any percutaneous device, such as
orthopedic traction pins, central venous catheters, PICCs, midlines and
epidural catheters, and serves to inhibit the microbial population around the
site for up to seven days.
